We decided to build a house when we could not find a satisfactory home on a rural block after we sold our farm. After months of examining plans on the internet and exhibition homes, we decided that a Birchgrove 61 would best suit us and the block that we had bought 80kms from Canberra. Apart from the plan, the specifications that Bell River offered appealed to us including the slab construction and the ease of varying the plan under the roofline. We have now lived in the house for a little over 12 months and are delighted with it.

It is beautifully built and free of the usual noises of expansion and contraction of a timber framed house; its sense of solidity is enhanced by the very substantial amount of insulation built into it. Despite the dire warnings of friends who had built with other companies and ended up far over budget, our house was efficiently built and Bell River dealt with any little problems in a cooperative and friendly way which made building the house a very pleasant experience. We moved into our new home last year. I was apprehensive about using steel as people said it was ‘noisy’ and ‘pinged’. We have been through a complete winter and summer and have never once heard the slightest noise. In fact, we are very pleased we used the heavy duty framing system as we have the peace of mind that we will not get any movement and cracking or termite problems.
